Ski for Conservation

Taking Conservation to the Mountains

Ski for Conservation is a conservation awareness and engagement initiative that connects adventure, mountain culture and environmental stewardship.

Pakistan’s northern mountains contain some of the country’s most important ecosystems and provide habitat for iconic wildlife, while also supporting communities whose lives and livelihoods are closely connected to these landscapes. Yet these fragile environments are increasingly exposed to climate change, habitat degradation, waste, unsustainable tourism and other pressures.

Ski for Conservation uses skiing and mountain adventure as a platform to bring conservation closer to people.

Our Approach

The initiative combines outdoor recreation, conservation education, storytelling and field engagement to encourage a stronger connection between people and mountain ecosystems.

Through expeditions, educational activities, visual storytelling and partnerships with outdoor communities, we aim to create opportunities for people to experience these landscapes while understanding the responsibility that comes with visiting them.

What We Focus On

  • Mountain biodiversity and wildlife
  • Alpine and high-altitude ecosystems
  • Responsible tourism
  • Climate change impacts on mountain environments
  • Plastic and waste pollution
  • Community engagement
  • Conservation education and storytelling

Why It Matters

Adventure can become more than recreation. It can become a gateway to understanding the landscapes we depend on.

Ski for Conservation seeks to build a culture where exploring Pakistan’s mountains also means helping protect them.

Responsible Mountain Experiences

Mountain recreation creates an opportunity to connect visitors with the ecological importance of high-altitude landscapes. Any activities under this initiative should prioritize safety, respect local cultures and livelihoods, minimize waste, follow local rules and avoid disturbing wildlife or sensitive habitats.

Possible Activities

  • Conservation awareness during mountain and winter-sport activities
  • Responsible tourism and leave-no-trace messaging
  • Visual storytelling about mountain ecosystems and communities
  • Engagement with local guides, outdoor groups and conservation partners
  • Education about climate impacts, waste and wildlife habitat

Take Part

Outdoor communities, educators, conservation groups and responsible tourism partners can help shape future activities. Proposed collaborations will be planned with local partners and subject to suitable conditions, permissions and safety arrangements.
